Yes, we encourage it. While WISE carefully pre-screens and interviews all companions and volunteers to ensure safety and quality, we believe that personal connection matters. Interviewing your prospective companion gives you a chance to ask your own questions, share your expectations, and make sure it feels like a good fit. Think of it as a conversation to build comfort and confidence before starting your journey together.
Our Companions are thoroughly screened, interviewed and vetted including state, federal, motor vehicle and offender background checks.
Every companion goes through a thorough multi-step screening process before being listed on our platform. This includes:
- County Criminal Search
- Federal and State Background Checks
- Global Watchlist Search
- Motor Vehicle Report
- National Criminal Search
- National Sex and Violent Offender
- Previous Employment Verification
To promote transparency and protect all parties during care services, WISE Care provides body cameras to companions and strongly encourages their use. While we cannot require use—since companions are independent contractors—we make this tool available to promote safety, accountability, and peace of mind for all parties.
If you ever have a concern, question, or complaint about a companion, we want to hear from you. Please contact us immediately—our team will review the issue and take appropriate steps to help resolve it. We are committed to making sure every experience with WISE Companion Care upholds the highest standard of care.
Important Disclaimer
Companions listed on the WISE platform are independent workers, not employees of WISE Care. While we provide screening, connection, and guidance, we are not liable for their individual actions or behavior. Think of our role like helping you hire a trusted handyman, housekeeper, or tutor—WISE helps you make an informed choice, but the final working relationship is between you and the companion.
We currently service Fort Worth Texas and the surrounding area. We are actively monitoring where our services are needed and seeking to expand our footprint across the state.
FAQ for Companions
Through WISE, you can browse clients in your community and pick the best jobs for you. You will be able to see the services requested, proximity of location, and start-end date and time of jobs.
There are no minimum hours required to work. At WISE Companion Care (WCC) you can work as much or as little as you want.
WISE does not require companion caregivers to have formal training, as you are considered an independent worker. However, companions who hold certifications—such as CPR, First Aid, or relevant caregiving experience—often stand out and are selected more frequently by members. While training isn’t mandatory, it can increase your opportunities and build trust with the families you support.
Initial criteria to be considered as a companion:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- English-speaking (Bi-Lingual is a plus).
- Access to a cellphone.
- Able to pass a background check.
No, you do not have to provide client transportation to be a companion. However, roughly twenty to thirty-five percent of WISE Companion Care’s client service requests include basic transportation for short errands. If you are unable to provide client transportation service, you would not be eligible to be matched with client transport requests.
You can manage or cancel shifts, and view schedules and job history through your WISE account online.
WISE companions are paid weekly via direct deposit. Through your WISE account online, you’ll have easy access to all your WCC job information such as your recent income, hours worked, and number of shifts completed.
If you’re a companion and have a compliance concern, please reach out to email our team at compliance@WISEcpc.org
